In the last 10 years, the city has undergone various changes and has seen a lot of improvement in its infrastructure. In this period many new flyovers are built and a large number of subways have been dug. Some are still going on. Though Metro rail does not cover the entire city, it is quite convenient if you are traveling from Connaught Place to New Delhi Railway Station, Kashmiri Gate, Central Secretariat, DU North Campus (Vishwavidyalaya), ISBT (Inter-state Bus Terminus), Dwarika or Rohini. Metro rail provides a cheap and comfortable commuting option to travelers. If a tourist is looking for exclusivity, one can hire a taxi and explore the city. Hiring a taxi may not be very cheap option but it is comfortable and that’s exactly what many travelers prefer to do. Explorers at heart can use public transport to get a feel of the city and its people. But before one ventures to explore the city on its own, it is good idea to buy a city guide map and find out about the buses and various other modes of transport available. Bus fare in the city is cheap and it is good to ask a fellow passenger about the fare and where the bus is going. When in doubt, ask at least two three people. Three-wheelers are affordable to commute within the city and are comfortably available. Before boarding an auto, it is wise to pre-decide the fare that you would be paying. There is no fix rate, so bargaining is not a bad idea. You’ll certainly save some money. Though the traffic moves smoothly in most city areas, at times (during peak hours) and in certain areas, traffic jams are common. The trick is don’t panic. Keep your cool. City drivers, will some how find their way out. Delhi has a number of hotels. But it is difficult to get a room in peak season. It is better to book a hotel in advance. It’ll save you lot of trouble. Many good hotels in Delhi are concentrated in and around Connaught Place. If you are traveling to Delhi first time, ask your hotel to provide pick up from the airport or railway station as the case may be.
