I always recommend Méribel for families seeking great skiing with kid-friendly services and facilities as it is a “Famille Plus’ resort with world-class terrain.

It can be tricky to find a resort that is both family-friendly and offers superb skiing - this is unfortunate,Méribel: Advanced Runs and Big Family Fun Articles as I speak to many skiing enthusiasts who want to combine their love of shredding the slopes with a fun vacation for the whole family. In these circumstances, I always recommend Méribel for families as it achieves the perfect balance of sophisticated skiing with kid-friendly entertainment and services.

For the Parents

For mum and dad, it is important that you find a bit of time away from the little ones so that you can relax and enjoy yourself. You can drop your brood off at the excellent ski schools and kids clubs (see below) and then get out and explore the world-class terrain that Méribel boasts.

Advanced skiers will be happy to hear that there are over 30 black runs to test your nerve, including the exhilarating Les Bosses piste which is not for the feint of heart! Méribel also features around 25km of cross country trails to explore, extensive off-piste terrain and a cool local terrain park. You will never get bored of the skiing opportunities around this excellent resort.

You are also in the heart of the legendary Three Valleys ski region, which is the biggest inter-linked ski area in the world. The state-of-the-art lift system allows you to get out and explore this magnificent area if you want to venture further afield (which you certainly should!).

For the Kids

If you want your little ones to quickly learn to ski and develop their confidence then you have come to the right place.

Méribel features a number of excellent ski schools, including one that is targeted towards children - New Generation. Fully qualified English speaking instructors can take kids from as young as 4 years olad and tailor lessons to their interest and level. Under their supervision, you will quickly see results begin to show. Your children will also enjoy the fun nature of the lessons and mixing with those of a similar age. There are also a few good nursery slopes near the accommodation for beginners to get to grips with skiing.

The cute themed ski areas can make their experiences even more enjoyable and entertaining, plus they can also try sledging if they become bored with trying to stand upright (the sledging areas all have crash mats).

Méribel features kids clubs and childcare services where you can happily leave them all day and have peace of mind knowing that they are being well looked after. There are many different clubs, so it is easy to find one that is suitable for their age group. These clubs have plenty of fun games and activities to keep them amused and they are sure to make many new friends.

Fun for the Family

Another reason that I recommend Méribel for families is that there is an abundance of family-friendly accommodation, restaurants and other facilities around the resort. It has status as a “Famille Plus’ resort, which recognises the resort’s superb commitment to providing facilities and experiences for families with children. You will notice many play areas, a leisure centre, a cinema, an entertainment schedule targeted towards kids and even a cute mascot - Kenotte.

How to Get There

Fortunately, you do not have to worry about stressful and lengthy travel with the little ones. Chambéry is the closest airport and an hour and 40-minute flight from London. Jump in a pre-booked Shuttle Direct transfer and you will be at Méribel in just over an hour. They can also carry all your gear and luggage for no added charge.

In terms of skiing, entertainment, facilities and atmosphere - you simply cannot beat Méribel for families seeking a memorable vacation.
