Park Lane: Notable Sights

Even years and years ago, London’s Park Lane was known for its estates and mansions. That's even widely spread on the board-game Monopoly.

In the eighteenth century, London’s Park Lane became widely noted for its elegant estates. While its origins of being celebrated as a popular piece of real estate are preserved in popular culture by the London edition of the board game Monopoly (it is the second most valuable piece of property in the game), it’s contemporary characteristics are now less alluring to the affluent real estate aficionado and more enticing to the enthusiastic traveler.
Today, Park lane is home to several five-star hotels and a convenient proximity to many of London’s most sought after attractions. Park Lane exists prominently as the western border of Mayfair (also featured in the London edition of Monopoly as the most expensive piece of property in the game), a historic area of central London in the city of Westminster.
Mayfair is widely known for its Shepherd Market; a small village square that dates back to the eighteenth century and which today features chic shopping boutiques, delightful dining experiences, and charming Victorian era pubs. It is also in Mayfair that visitors can find several renowned Park Lane hotels, including the Grosvenor House Hotel and The Dorchester.
Park Lane’s location also prides itself on its verdant views of the leafy, green Hyde Park. The 625-acre park is one of the largest in the city and is also recognized as one of the Royal Parks of London. The southeast corner of Hyde Park is home to The Lanesborough, one of the most lavish and extravagant hotels in the area. Like Park Lane and Mayfair in Monopoly, Hyde Park is also colorfully referenced as a part of popular culture in Alan Moore’s novel, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
With its center and surroundings widely celebrated as cultural landmarks, London travelers who choose to lodge in any Park Lane hotel will find themselves immersed in an illustrious area flourishing with a rich history, lively entertainment, and diverse culture.
