You might be a driver with a perfect record on your home turf, but your driving record means nothing in a foreign country. They have their own rules and regulations and you had better know all of them before you decide to rent a car. There are language barriers and you might not understand the road signs or the instructions as you are driving. The authorities don't care if you don't understand; all they know is that you may have broken one of their laws.

You need to educate yourself before taking out a rental, car in foreign territory. It isn't hard to do a little bit of research and it can save you a lot of stress and headaches while you are on your vacation. It certainly wouldn't be fun for you and your family to get pulled over and have to decipher the language as the officer is writing you up for something that is perfectly legal in the United States but not so legal in their country. Remember, you are a visitor there and you must accept their laws.

You want your vacation to be perfect and driving around town is the last thing you want to do. You want to be at your destination with minimal problems, so do your homework in advance. Understand the signs in the country in which you will be driving and make sure you know the standard speed limits and what is accepted as safe driving and it will make your vacation a lot easier. And more enjoyable.

The laws that apply to the United States might seem to apply everywhere but they do not and that's what you need to consider before renting a car in a foreign country.
