The starting line is still visible, etched on the marble in the stadium there, inviting you to run and compete with the ancient athletes. You will continue your tour with a drive to the quaint village of Oia. Built on the Caldera rim, Oia Village is an excellent example of Cycladic architecture. With your escort, explore the village walking along the cobble-stoned streets and the white washed houses with blue shutters. Return to Thira and your ship.
PATMOS ISLAND MONASTERY OF JOHN THE EVANGELIST & THE CAVE OF THE BOOK OF REVELATION Enjoy a short drive to the village of Chora, where the Monastery of St. John, the Evangelist is built within the walls of a strong fortification. Walking uphill towards the entrance of the monastery, enjoy this magnificent structure, which was built 900 years ago. View the outstanding frescoes and interior decoration. Continue to the nearby Grotto and Monastery of the Apocalypse. Walk down the steps to the Grotto, see the niches in the wall that mark the pillow and ledge used as a desk by John the Evangelist.
