I would make a confession upfront: I am totally biased against big airlines that have more or less constituted themselves into a monopoly of sorts at the expense of the small players and consumers. Let me explain what I mean.

Just to keep ticket prices artificially high, airlines would fly with half empty seats rather than a full board on discounted fares. Think about it, how many times you have flown on one of those "fully booked" flights only to discover once you are airborne, several vacant seats surrounding you and beyond. Try getting an explanation from any of the flight personnel and you are at best given an unintelligible answer or at worst nothing. The fact of the matter is that most of them do not know the answer.

On the other end of the spectrum, the small airlines that offer discount airfare tickets always struggle to justify why they always disappoint their customers with over booking. To them, a couple of empty seats can make the difference between breaking even or breaking down. The consumer is squeezed between the big airlines with big fares and the small operators with discount fares and an over booking reputation.

Sandwiched between these seeming obstacles to very cheap airline tickets is a loophole that the airline industry has been keeping to itself. Question - do airline personnel and workers pay the same fares as the rest of us? The answer is no. It should not be that way, hence a few of them having broken ranks are prepared to show anyone who cares to dig deeper, ways and means to enjoy a similar privilege.
