Something for everyone at barcelona

Barcelona is as colorful as it is culturally diverse in its unrivaled history and cosmopolitan attitude. This special outcome was caused by the 18th century Spanish Bourbons who embraced this city's traditions so tightly through their persistent usage of the Catalan language and the celebration of raucous festivals, despite the protests from the other parts of Spain.

They put forth great effort to preserve the historical monuments and remnants of all eras to the present.

Ancient Attractions

The most impressive ancient monuments in Barcelona are those designed by Antonio Gaudi, who was considered a genius in modern architecture. His buildings have been designated as World Heritage sites. The most respected architectural pieces in Barcelona are Güell Park, the Palace, Mila Home and astounding unfinished La Sagrada Familia church.

The Gothic quarter is considered the most ancient of regions found around Barcelona. It is oval in shape with many Gothic-styled buildings such as the cathedral, the ancient building that is used as City Hall today and the majestic Generalitat and Episcopal palaces.

The most renowned street in Barcelona is the La Rambla which is very popular with tourists. It is located in the old section and is about 1.2 kilometers long. Its south side is very festive and very little auto traffic is allowed so that pedestrians can enjoy a walk anytime of the day or even at night. There are quaint artist stalls, flower shops and animals pits which attract both the locals and the tourists.

A stroll is the best method to discover Barcelona, day or night, to enjoy its plazas, open air markets, florist shops or historical buildings.
