The other local traditions are well known. Yes,Top Pick of Yoga Studios in Málaga Articles this city is marvellous for food, culture, flamenco and of course, the inevitable sun and beaches. Yet on a ‘get away from it all’ holiday where the emphasis is on stress-relief, knowing that there are some nearby Yoga centres will be an attractive prospect.

Why Yoga?

If you’re already familiar with Yoga, then you won’t need to ask this question!

If you’re thinking about trying it though, the benefits are now almost universally accepted. They can include for some major improvements in health and vitality, as well as emotional balance. Others claim that it also offers what they term “spiritual peace”, though that latter may vary in its nature from one participant to another.

It’s certainly worth trying, and in Málaga you’ll find lots of places that will be willing to help you discover this ancient tradition.

Yoga Centres in Málaga

Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or a novice, there are four centres that come immediately to mind.

• Alice's Yoga & Beach Homestay, Calle Practicante Fernández Alcolea 19, 29018 Málaga

Based upon the Hatha tradition, the classes here are run by Alice. In summer they’re held on the roof terrace, usually as the sun is setting. In winter, they’re more likely to be held during full sunlight.

Alice is German and trained in India. She also specialises in offering training in Mantra singing to combine music and Yoga principles.

• Efecto Yoga Málaga, 2º, Calle Trinidad Grund, 7, 29001 Málaga

This centre is run by a team of four specialists and also offers things such as massage and warm water therapies. They even offer relaxation techniques for pregnant women, so if you’re travelling with a baby bump – you know where to go!

Different experts run different classes throughout the working day on Monday-Friday. You can have a trial lesson for only €5 and prices then vary up to €50 per month, which entitles you to unlimited lessons each week.

• Ashtanga Yoga Málaga, C/ Juan de Padilla nº11, Primero Izquierda (Málaga)

Trial classes are available at reduced fees and the tariff varies by how many lessons you take per week (Monday-Friday), up to €60 per month for unlimited access.

How to Get There

Málaga is a major city and its airport is served by a huge number of airlines from the UK and elsewhere around the world. It is possible to take a train from (or via) Madrid or arrive by sea on a cruise, though these remain relatively minor routes in terms of visitor percentages overall.

The town centre is only about 15-25 minutes from the airport, subject to traffic conditions.

Comfortable pre-bookable airport transfer taxis from Málaga Airport are available to speed you quickly and comfortably to the city centre or elsewhere locally. Pre-booking is highly advisable because, with 10-12 months of good weather, Andalusia is very popular with visitors for much of the year. That results in an often very busy airport, so being met by your own pre-booked taxi from Málaga Airport can be a hugely welcoming start to your holiday here.

Don’t forget that, if you are arriving via train or boat, your transfer vehicle can meet you there as well!
