Touring Gardens Outside of Your Barbados Small Hotel

One of the most beautiful attractions that this island boasts is the luscious gardens that dot the island. Even Barbados small hotels have gardens with views you can appreciate. Barbados’ attraction is not limited to the gorgeous white sandy beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean.

Barbados’ attraction is not limited to the gorgeous white sandy beaches and azure waters of the Caribbean. One of the most beautiful attractions that this island boasts is the luscious gardens that dot the island. Even Barbados small hotels have gardens with views you can appreciate.

Every year, selected residents of the island who are members of the Barbados Horticultural Society open their private backyards for the Open Gardens Programme where tourist can come and admire their hard work. A small fee is collected during the event and viewings are specifically scheduled so guests wanting to enjoy this rare treat are advised to see the website for the itinerary.

This Caribbean island’s tropical climate is the perfect breeding ground for exotic plants and trees. Orchids are the main attraction in Orchid World; a farm dedicated to cultivating a wide variety of orchids. Dendrobiums, Vandas, Calanthes, and Cattleyeas are just some of the plant species that the farm has. Surprisingly, they also have a gazebo with a wide area perfect for a tropical wedding.

The water features, the rain-forest feel and the general tranquility would certainly recharge any exhausted tourist. It is recommended that guests bring or borrow umbrellas to avoid sunburn during midday strolls. There is a bar and restaurant for the hungry guests and a gift shop for those wanting souvenirs.

The most popular garden in Barbados is probably the Andromeda Botanical Gardens. It is a six-acre green paradise located at St. Joseph. It contains a wild variety of flora typically found in tropical countries like bougainvillea, hibiscus, ferns, and cacti. The water features like fountains, pools and springs add a feeling of tranquility.

Mrs. Iris Bannochie, a local horticulturalist, developed the garden in 1954 at first as her own private sanctuary but eventually, it expanded and blossomed so well, she opened it to the public. In a generous gesture, she left the property for the people of Barbados and it had been under the care of the National Trust ever since.

Like the Orchid World, Andromeda Botanical Gardens also caters to weddings and other functions. Guests can buy souvenirs at the gift shop and have refreshments at the café near the entrance.

You can also stop by and visit the Flower Forest. It’s a massive 50 acre botanical garden cum nature trail. It was developed in 1980 on what was left of the old Richmond plantation. It is situated in St. Joseph and is open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm.

Guests could consider hiking the path of the trail as a cardio workout since it takes an hour to brisk walk through the garden. For a more relaxing and leisurely pace, guests can expect to experience and bask in the beauty of flowers and plants. A snack bar and gift shop is also located within the garden.

It would be lucky if you can find Barbados small hotels that are near the gardens and even luckier if you have a room with a garden view of paradise.
