Austria is a very popular European tourist destination with a variety of attractions in itsvarious regions and cities. The Austrian capital, Vienna, located on the Danube in Eastern Austria, is imbued with old European charm and modern cultural influences. The alpine city, Innsbruck, is an international winter sports centre and is set against a backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty.

For a well-rounded Austrian travel experience, a visit to both of these cities is highly recommended. Vienna was a powerful political, cultural and economic centre for centuries during the time of the Austrian Empire and the Hapsburg reign. The city is still a major cultural centre and a classical music mecca. The composers Beethoven, Schubert and Mozart all played a role in the development of Vienna’s musical heritage.

Vienna is the home to many museums and some major art collections, and the city also boasts a thriving modern music scene spanning several genres. The architecture of Vienna is another main attraction, with notable examples of various styles from Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings and monuments to Modern influenced structures.

Innsbruck is one of the most well-known winter sports centres in the world. The city has hosted two Winter Olympics tournaments and will be the host of the 1st-ever Winter Youth Olympics competition in 2012. The city is wonderfully scenic and set amidst the towering alps. Innsbruck is full of picturesque old buildings, but is quite continental and modern in it’s overall vibe - there is a big influence from, and presence of, the international skiing, snowboarding and skateboarding crowd. 25, 000 students and the influx of young winter sports enthusiasts make for a lively, youthful atmosphere.

Both Vienna and Innsbruck hotels are to be found in a number of price ranges. For hotels Vienna offers a wider range of choices, being a much larger cityComputer Technology Articles, but reasonably priced accommodations are available in both.
