The biggest city of Ghana, Accra is also its administrative and economic center. Further, it is also the capital of the country. It is a major center for tourism and culture. Architecture of the city displays colonial British buildings and other historical attractions. Skyscrapers and apartment blocks are the modern face of the region.

Flights to Accra have increased due to a global interest in its culture and attractions. The city has seen tremendous development in the past decade. A lot of Danish, British and Dutch forts are present here. Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences is a major tourist spot here. It has been built to promote knowledge regarding different branches of humanities and sciences.

The National Museum is a famous building in the city. It displays many historical treasures of the country. The museum hosts many exhibitions to showcase the country’s diverse culture and sacred artifacts. Center for National Culture is another interesting tourist spot. Workshops and art galleries exist here. It is located nearby the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. The place offers a lot of stuff such as wooden sculptures, woven Kente cloth, fashion accessories and earrings. The place is surrounded by beautiful gardens which includes a botanical garden also.

Accra zoo is reputed for its beauty and has a fascinating collection of wildlife. Some of the animals kept here include snakes, lions, monkeys, leopards, crocodiles, etc. It is also a bird watchers’ paradise and various native and international species are seen here.

Shopping here is a great pastime and enjoyable experience. The Makola shopping mall draws hordes of people. Beautiful African textiles, traditional clothes, cosmetics and foodstuffs are found here. The place also has restaurants and offices. The other important shopping center is the Agbogbloshie Market. It has been recently constructed and enjoys a lot of patronage from the city’s residents. Further, a lot of markets sell second hand items like shoes, household items and clothes.

Traditional crafts and textiles are considered very important in Ghanaian culture. The music played by the residents really touches one’s soul. Authentic African dancing and drumming are very pleasing to the eyes.
