What is Cyprus really like?

You may have built up a certain impression of Cyprus, as a result of the media coverage that the island gets. The real Cyprus is historic, diverse, lively and spectacular.

When thinking about potential holiday destinations, we tend to gain impressions of locations based on a variety of inputs. We may, for instance, have friends that have previously visited the resorts that we are looking at.

In the case of Cyprus, you are likely to have heard many views. This is an island that is visited by millions of people each year. It's the third largest island in the entire Mediterranean Sea.

The opinions that you've heard are likely to have varied. Some visitors would describe the island as an extremely lively place, with exciting nightlife that rivals the Spanish island of Ibiza.

Others might paint a different picture. They might suggest that this is a place that is full of history and culture. They might well describe this as a tranquil, traditional Mediterranean island.

The truth is that both views of Cyprus are accurate. This is an extremely diverse island, with a traditional way of life mixing with the demands of modern day tourism.

For younger visitors, the excitement of Ayia Napa ensures that there is always plenty to do. The resort has a reputation for music and for fun.

If you're looking for a quieter holiday then other resorts are likely to be better suited. The resort of Paphos, for example, prides itself on being a great location for family holidays.

Cyprus offers a little bit of everything. With its great climate, glorious beaches and wonderful scenery, it provides the perfect setting for a holiday abroad.
