What is the Australia work permit visa?

Australia work permit naturally allows you to work in Australia. There are four main types of Australian work visas that you can apply for. Two of them are temporary and only allow you to stay in Australia for a limited period of time, while the other two are for permanent residence, and many of the benefits of citizenship.

What are the visa options?

Australia work permit naturally allows you to work in Australia. There are four main types of Australian work visas that you can apply for. Two of them are temporary and only allow you to stay in Australia for a limited period of time, while the other two are for permanent residence, and many of the benefits of citizenship.

Temporary

    Temporary work visa (subclass 457) Currently being phased out, which will be replaced by the TSS visa in March 2018. This visa is intended to bring qualified workers to Australia on a temporary basis to do the necessary work.

    Working holidays (subclasses 462 and 417). Designed to allow young people to work while taking a long holiday in Australia. A limited number of these types of visa are granted each year. The limits and type of working holiday visa you can apply for depend on your country of origin.

Permanent

    Employer-sponsored employment visas (subclasses 186 and 187) An Australian employer may sponsor non-residents to obtain permanent residence. An employer can sponsor an employee who is already in Australia with a 457, TSS or Working Holiday visa, or can sponsor someone who is still abroad.

    Qualified self-employed worker visas (subclass 189) A visa for overseas residents who wish to apply for permanent residence without being sponsored by an Australian employer Candidates register an expression of interest and are selected based on their employment and their position in a points test compared to other candidates.

How can I apply for a work visa?

You can apply for an Australia work visa through the Australian Department of Immigration and Border Protection website, or you can hire a migration agent to advise you on the process and submit your application for you.

If you want to work in Australia as a qualified migrant, you can also submit an expression of interest through SkillSelect. An expression of interest is not the same as a visa application, and does not cost anything, but it will allow employers and Australian governments to discover your skills through the database. An employer may then invite you to apply for a visa. You can also use a migration agent to send an expression of interest.

 

If further information or documents are requested after your application, you must provide them within the deadline. Remember to inform the Immigration Office if your situation changes, for example, if your address, marital status or employment situation changes.

Can I get permanent residence on a Australia work visa?

Some visas allow for permanent residence in Australia, such as the Employer Nominee Plan (subclass 186), the Qualified Independent visa (subclass 189) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Plan (subclass 187).
