Where to Stay When You’re Visiting the Bottom of the World

Ushuaia is the southernmost city in the world. By proxy, it’s the capital of Antarctica. Located on the southern tip of Argentina, it is on the shore of the Beagle Channel and nearby the gorgeous Tierra del Fuego National Park. Ushuaia is undoubtedly the best place to stay when you’re visiting deep Southern Patagonia.

Within walking distance of downtown Ushuaia, there are several excellent hotels. The boutique Mil810 Ushuaia Hotel is centrally located, and is only two blocks from Beagle Channel. The service is excellent as is the elegance and charm of the decor. There are 30 rooms fully equipped with extras like TVs with DVD players. The excellent services include room service, laundry, a buffet breakfast, and a restaurant, Café Mil810, that has views over the Beagle Channel and the mountains.

Another hotel located right downtown is the Hotel Lennox. This four-star boutique has great views of the Beagle Channel and the city. There are 30 rooms, some with Jacuzzi tubs. There are apartments large enough for families that include kitchenettes. The Buena Vista Bar and Lounge serves great food, and includes a library, DVD room, and business center. 

Another centrally-located hotel is Hosteria Patagonia Jarke, only two blocks from the Beagle Channel and situated right in Ushuaia’s downtown. This three star hosteria has views of the Beagle Channel. The amenities include a breakfast buffet, a playroom for kids, plus a lounge and reading room.

Hotel Macondo House is another excellent mid-range Ushuaia hotel option. Just a short walk from downtown, this bed and breakfast has great views of the Beagle Channel and Martial Mountains. The seven rooms are big, comfy, and elegant. There is a cozy living room with fireplace. For breakfast, you can enjoy a homemade Argentinean meal.

Another hotel that is close to downtown Ushuaia is the gorgeous Hotel Del Glaciar. This chalet-style hotel sits above the town on an open plain. The views are spectacular. There are 124 rooms which overlook the Ushuaia downtown, the Beagle Channel, and the Martial Mountains.
