A Coastal Haven Away from the Crowds

Have you ever been to a beach that was so overrun with visitors that finding a spot to lay your towel felt like a competitive sport? Or perhaps you've encountered the disappointment of a beach day ruined by poor weather,Discover the Charm of Florence for an Unforgettable Oregon Coast Getaway Articles leaving you confined indoors. If these scenarios sound familiar, you'll be delighted to discover a coastal gem that promises a variety of activities to fill every day of your vacation, come rain or shine.

In the past, our family's go-to destination was Lincoln City on the Oregon coast. However, we often found that the attractions we were most interested in were located south of the city, and the beaches there were frequently overcrowded. After a less-than-ideal weekend in Yachats, we stumbled upon a place that captured our hearts so deeply that it became our annual retreat. And even after numerous visits, we still haven't exhausted all the activities on offer.

Your Home Away from Home at Driftwood Shores

Driftwood Shores Resort and Conference Center, a haven we discovered through an ad in Oregon Coast magazine, became our family's favorite spot. With four children, finding accommodation that wasn't cramped was a challenge, but Driftwood Shores offered a variety of room sizes and suites to comfortably accommodate families of all sizes. Our preferred choice was a family suite with two bedrooms—one with a king-size bed and private bathroom, and the other with two beds—plus a living room and a kitchen with a dinette.

The savings from preparing most of our meals offset the slight premium for the room, and the luxury of our own wood-burning fireplace was a delightful bonus. On days when we sought simple relaxation, the indoor spa and pool were a hit with the whole family.

Every room at Driftwood Shores boasts a view of a pristine ten-mile stretch of beach, which, at its busiest, saw no more than a handful of families. Its location, nestled north of Florence amidst a large residential area, shields it from the bulk of tourist traffic, offering a peaceful beach experience.

A Hub of Coastal Activities

Florence's central location places you within a ten-mile radius of an array of attractions. To the north, the renowned Sea Lion Caves beckon, holding the title of the world's largest sea cave inhabited by sea lions. Although the sea lions venture out during the summer, there are still plenty inside, making for an impressive, albeit noisy, spectacle.

Heading south, you'll find expansive sand dunes perfect for hiking, with designated areas for dune buggy enthusiasts. The local scene also includes exquisite dining options, miniature golf, charming gift shops, and even riverboat excursions.

For those willing to venture a bit further, the Oregon Coast Aquarium to the north and the West Coast Game Park in Bandon offer enriching experiences for wildlife enthusiasts.

Florence stands out as a destination that caters to active families, ensuring that even a fortnight of rain won't dampen the spirits of beachgoers.
