Bring Your Old WP Blogs Back into Life
Do you want readers to find your older blogs? If a reader wants a content you wrote about WP where can he/she find it if it has vanished from the page and was replaced by recent posts? You can provide a path for readers towards old WP blogs.
According to Paul Boag (of boagworld.com), he knows 4 ways on how to bring new life to old WP blog posts, which he had proven to be effective. Here they are.
1. Theme Posts
Theme posts are summaries of all contents written about a specific topic. These are pages or posts on your website that discuss a particular theme. To keep your posts alive you should write a post that covers all the articles in the archive dealing with a certain subject. This way the readers are attracted to the archived blogs and the posts are doomed to disappear. Below is an example of a theme post on web copy.
2. Related Posts
This should be placed at the end of each post to encourage users to proceed on reading. WP blogs use a plugin called Similar Posts that you have to put up and you can run it in a few minutes. ‘Similar Posts’ allows you to put together the posts you want to show.
3. Embedded Tags
This application allows users to see a link embedded within the content itself, not in the sidebar out of the content or at the bottom of the content. A WP plugin is again useful called ‘Simple Tags’. This will allow tagging all of your posts, and will turn the tags into links. It is recommended that you tag as many of your posts manually as possible to let the plugin work with the tags.
Set it up in such a way that the Tags Database checkbox is selected so that the plugin will start at your own tags and improve the quality of tags that it would create. ‘Simple Tags’ auto tagging feature can tag all your posts easily and quickly in a matter of minutes.
4. Redesign the Homepage
Another way to liven up your WP blog is to redesign your homepage. It is the conventional way to show only the most recent contents on the homepage; and the contents of the archive lose exposure. To make things turn around, the homepage must show some kind of endorsement like for example – “the 5 latest posts”, and some of the “most popular posts”. ’Popular Posts’ is a WP plugin used to highlight posts from your blog with the most number of views.
The suggestions above can make it possible for old blogs to come back to life. ‘Similar Posts’ works if a reader scrolls down and finds a similar content. ‘Related Posts’ also works well in finding older blogs. This is an effective approach for blogs to have staying power. Inline tags turn a tag word into an active link which provides more life to the blog and also provides SEO benefits.
