Unsafe abortions results in maternal deaths of 70,000 approximately and 5 million are admitted to hospital with complications. Approximately 44 million abortions are performed globally and almost half of it performed in an unsafe way. Only 40 percent of the world's women have access to induced abortion in a legal way.

Heavy bleeding:

This complication can occur in less than 1% of medical abortions. Second trimester abortions are having higher rates of complications compared to first trimester abortion. But most foetal abnormalities are detected after 14 weeks of pregnancy. In such cases, women may choose abortion, which can be performed by either medical methods or surgical methods. Third trimester abortion is legally allowed if the mother is at risk of being harmed by the pregnancy. Less than 1% abortions takes place in the third trimester.
