There are various causes of an ovarian cyst. However,Causes of Ovarian Cyst and Natural Treatments Articles the most common cause us the growth of a follicle. This is commonly referred to as a follicular cyst. In a woman, a follicle is the fluid filled sac that contains the egg.

During the menstrual cycle the normal function of the follicle is to increase in size, open and release the egg. Follicular cysts are formed when this process malfunctions in some way stopping the egg from being released and making the follicle grow larger than normal. In most cases, follicular cysts will resolve themselves without outside intervention over the course of a few days to months. These cysts usually have no symptoms and are quite harmless.

Another common form of an ovarian cyst is known as a corpus luteum cyst. The corpus luteum is an area of tissue that occurs in the ovary once an egg has been successfully released by the follicle. A corpus luteum that is functioning correctly will disintegrate if pregnancy does not occur following the release of the egg. However, sometimes this break down fails leading to the formation of a cyst.

The cause of this ovarian cyst is that the corpus luteum fills with fluid or blood and persists on the ovary. Most times this cyst s only on one side with no noticeable symptoms and these too will resolve without intervention over time.

In some cases, however, corpus luteum cysts can grow quite big, up to 4 inches, before they start to break down. If this occurs, it can cause a lot of lower abdominal pain. Natural remedies are often used to reduce pain, which I will discuss at the end of the article. Corpus luteum cysts have also been known to rupture if they contain blood causing sharp excruciating pain and internal bleeding. So please do not ignore this cyst if you suspect that you may have it.

It has been reported that the fertility drug 'clomiphene citrate' can cause ovarian cysts. Having a corpus luteum cyst will not prevent you from conceiving, but if you are trying to get pregnant it is best to avoid 'clomiphene citrate' due to it being linked to the cause of cysts which may lead to other complications.

The next cause of ovarian cyst is when the tissues of the ovary undergo some odd development to form other body tissue like teeth or hair. Ovarian cysts that contain these sort of abnormal tissues are known as benign cystic teratomas or dermoid cysts. This cyst can cause a large amount of pain if it twists on itself, but thankfully it is not a cancerous cyst.

At the present time you cannot prevent the causes of an ovarian cyst, but a lot of women believe that there are natural ways and certain lifestyle choice that can reduce the likelihood of developing ovarian cysts. These natural methods to tackle the causes of ovarian cyst include:

  • increasing exercise,

  • controlling stress,

  • improving the quality of your diet, and
