According to many health experts, salmon is the number one food a person can eat to help create a healthy scalp. A WebMD article stated that salmon is not only a great source of protein; it’s packed with B vitamins, iron and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Los Angeles Dietician Andrea Giancoli, a spokesperson for the American Dietetic Association, said that an omega-3 deficiency can result in a dry scalp, which can cause hair to have a dull and lackluster appearance.

Beans are also good for your hair as they contain biotin, the WebMD article said. People with low biotin levels are at an increased risk for brittle hair. Kidney beans and other lentils are also filled with protein, which helps hair grow.

According to Giancoli, foods filled with protein, like poultry, also help hair maintain its color.

And even though no one likes oily hair, natural hair oils serve as ready-made conditioner, the article said. Therefore, stocking up on veggies like spinach and broccoli may not be a bad idea as those foods contain vitamins A and C, which help replenish hair’s natural oils.   

And unless you have high cholesterol, A Ladies’ Home Journal article recommended that people eat red meat twice a week as it contains B vitamins, iron and zinc needed to help maintain healthy hair.
