Important Threatened Miscarriage Symptoms

Any type of vaginal bleeding, other than that of spotting, during the early weeks of pregnancy is considered to be threatened miscarriage. It is important to note here that miscarriage is also referred as spontaneous abortion, and causes loss of fetus during early or late weeks of pregnancy. However, that does not mean that threatened miscarriage will necessarily lead to loss of fetus; in certain instances, it only progresses towards loss of pregnancy. Vaginal bleeding is a most common symptom during early pregnancy. In fact, one out of four pregnant women often experiences some sort of bleeding during the early weeks. This does not necessarily means that she is progressing towards miscarriage. Very often, vaginal bleeding settles down, and women experience normal pregnancy. As a matter of fact, one of the most important threatened miscarriage symptoms is vaginal bleeding.

1. As mentioned earlier, vaginal bleeding is the most common and important symptom of threatened miscarriage. However, unlike miscarriages, bleeding in this situation is generally mild in the form of slight spotting, or in certain cases, it may be heavier as well. On consulting the doctor, it is being determined how heavily you are bleeding on the basis of how many sanitary napkins are being soaked in an hour. The gynecologist will also inquire about any tissue or blood clot passing through the vagina at the time of urination.

2. Cramping and pain in the lower abdomen area is another common symptom of threatened miscarriage. One may experience the abdominal pain on one side, in the middle, or in both the sides. While it is generally mild, in certain cases, the pain can become acute and extend to the buttocks, lower back, and genitals as well. 

Vaginal bleeding in threatened miscarriage gradually settles within few days. However, this time may vary from woman to woman, depending on health conditions. Generally, it takes few days to settle down completely, but in certain instances, it may also take two weeks or more to settle. Threatened miscarriage is only a symptom of miscarriage, and may not necessarily lead to loss of pregnancy. However, in certain cases, the situations may progress further and lead to miscarriage if sufficient prevention measures are not taken on priority.
