If you have body piercings,Is Body Piercing Jewelry Appropriate in the Office? Articles then you are more than likely someone that enjoys this. The number of people with these piercings has climbed dramatically over the last couple decades to the point that the majority of people ages 18 to 30 have body piercing jewelry in them. This brings up many questions when you look at the workforce including the thought of whether or not it is alright to have these piercings in the office. There are a few things that you should look at to help you with your decision.

One of the main reasons that people believe that they should have the right to wear body piercing jewelry in the workplace is that they feel that their employer has no right to tell them how they can or cannot live their life. They feel that if they allow the employer to dictate this that it opens the door for them to start to dictate other aspects of their life that they should not be involved in.

There is a flip side to this argument that says that every workplace has a dress code and there are reasons for this. The company has a certain image that it wants to project. Even though the thought of body piercing jewelry being for hoodlums is an outdated thought with younger people, the truth is that there are still many people out there that simply do not feel this way and still want that good old fashioned straight laced look. Also, if you sign a paper stating that you will adhere to the dress code, then there is really nothing that you can do.

Then there is the argument that meets somewhere in the middle. It says that if there is nothing that specifically prohibits the employees from wearing body piercing jewelry, then it should be allowed. There are also thoughts on this that the wearer should not have to feel persecuted at work for their right to express their individualism.

One of the great things about our lives is that no one can take away our rights to have our own opinion. This does mean though that there is no one right answer to this. As it stands now, most businesses frown on body piercing jewelry and may even use this as grounds not to hire a person. Hopefully as more and more people begin to get these piercings, the opinion about this will change.
