Preparing for Liposuction Procedure

The Liposuction procedure requires a certain preparation. There are many physical, emotional, and mental adjustments that one must undergo before going through Liposuction. This article narrates the details for such..

Liposuction is a surgical removal of fats in different areas of the body including the abdomen, neck, chin, calves, butt, arms, thighs, and back to achieve a slimmer and toner appearance. However, this is not an alternative to any weight loss procedure and does not provide any medical benefits aside from aesthetic improvements.

You must meet certain requirements if you want to undergo a liposuction procedure in order to avoid or at least reduce the risk of complications.

Meanwhile, these are some of the basic preparations prior to the liposuction surgery:

* You are close to your ideal body weight or at least 30 percent within your recommended weight. And in most cases, it is ideal that your weight has been stable for six months to ensure that the result will not be altered by weight fluctuations.

* You should stop smoking at least two months before and after the surgery, or even longer if the procedure is extensive and involves a larger area. Remember that you are at higher risk of complications and may experience delayed recovery if you are smoking because the nicotine constricts the blood vessels and prevents oxygen from effectively reaching the skin that could have promote fast healing.

* You should discuss with your liposuction doctor all the risks and ramifications of liposuction. In this way, you can avoid complications by following the post-operative care advised by your surgeon. During your consultation, you should be honest and tell your doctor all your medical history, previous and current medications, and other information that is relevant to your surgery.

* You should undergo several examinations to determine if you have a medical condition that could increase your risk of complications.

* You should stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs, aspirin, and certain herbal supplements and vitamins that can aggravate bleeding for at least a month.

* You should prepare all the creams, medications, special garments that you will need during your recovery period.

After doing these preparations, your doctor will also consider the following factors to determine if you are a good candidate for liposuction surgery.

* The condition of your skin. Ideally, your skin is elastic and does not have stretch mark which is a manifestation of laxity.

* Your emotional health. Because doctors use a strict patient selection method, you are most likely to be turned down if you have psychological issues and suffer from depression, extreme mood swingsArticle Search, and body dysmorphic disorder (a condition in which sufferers imagine a defect in their body).
