Freelance writing often sounds like the perfect job. With the proper amount of planning and work it can be a great opportunity to work from home and express yourself with writing.
Youíve just graduated from college, and have decided to get into freelance writing. Or perhaps youíre a blogging mum whose kids have finally grown up, leaving you with plenty of time on your hands for writing. Or youíve seen half the world, and would like to make some money out of your adventures via writing about them.
Your first order of the day is to establish exactly what you want to get into. Freelance writing is divided into two main sub-categories. Firstly, you can decide to write for print. Magazines, journals, books, newspapers and the like. For a writer, print media definitely pays more than electronic media, but breaking into it is equivalently tough.
Secondly, you can decide to be a web writer. There are millions of websites out there, each having plenty of articles, blogs, news releases, about us pages, and so on and so forth. They were all written by someone. Why not you?††
The main techniques of making money fast via web writing are simple. Either get into copy writing, or into technical writing. These two fields have a vast demand, and any writer worth his words can make a fortune out of them.
Marketing your writing is also very important. For a beginner, you can start off with a web log site. Build your portfolio online. Write something new everyday. In fact, write ten articles everyday. Base them on different topics. Put all your work up on the blog, with a contact email address. Then place your articles on different article directories, placing a link on each to your site. Sit back. Watch the orders come in.
Sounds easy? It isnít. It takes a lot of time, and a lot of dedication. If you feel that you canít handle this, then a career as a freelance writer isnít for you. However, there are many other career choices in freelancing. Guide your career towards where your talent lies.
