The Freelance Writer’s Stock-In-Trade

To be successful in the field of freelance writing, you have to exercize good judgement. Avoid schemes and delay impulse purchases of new furniture and equipment for your home office. Keep the focus on what is most important.

Every successful freelance writer has a stock of secrets that can never be passed out, and are the key to getting to the most elite set of writers. This set has the power to charge whatever they wish and still have clients waiting to take them on! This concept is known as the writer’s stock-in-trade. Every freelance writer gets these secrets from working in a particular field for a long time.

Newbies to freelance writing pay a lot of money on the net for get-rich-quick schemes on writing. These never pan out, and hence one should never get into them, since they probably fleece you of what you have. However, every writer must have a trick or two up his sleeve to get started, and keep moving in this field. A few tips to get you started:

Scout around!

While a few writers can come up with amazing ideas that they work upon and sell, most of us need help. This is a fact, and the amazing thing is, it’s NOT plagiarism. You can look around on the net at different websites and different blogs, and you’ll probably get a lot of ideas that you can work on. You might even come across articles on whose themes you can write several more! However, learn to differentiate between your articles and those you’ve seen.

Develop your style

Every writer has his own style. You can imitate another writer’s style, but you have little hopes of carrying it off. A writer should be conversant with many different styles, however, and be able to identify himself in his writing.

Put the checkbook away!

As a newbie, you’ll want to invest in different things that can make your writing easy. For a start, you’ll want to get a printer, scanner, dictator, new swivel chair, a filing cabinet, and other interesting knick-knacks that the writer uses. Don’t. Put it offBusiness Management Articles, until the writing really does cut it for you. Then you can go on a cruise if you want too!
