Offset Printing - Now And Then

The first market that embraced offset labels was wine and liquor market. Health and beauty market, followed the footsteps and now a days high end food and industrial labels are running behind offset for quality work. Expensive offset machines are used by the high end suppliers who supply labels to the big brand owners as the set up of these offset machines is expensive.

 

Packaging and labeling industry is a big industry and it uses various form of technologies to manufacture labels and tags. Offset  printing is one of them. Offset printing is also called lithography, is very prevalent these days and is used by many labeling and packaging companies.  Today, I would provide you an insight about offset printing and offset printed labels used in the branding and packaging industry. This technology was developed by Alois Senefelder in Bavaria in the year 1796.

Many labels are still done on small ‘stop-and-go’ offset machines, but the volume comes from highly industrialized and professional players, going to the high-end brand owners.offset combination quality is still away from the market and initially only European countries, had this privilege. But gradually, other countries too would follow the same route very soon. Digital offset and conventional offset  is the second most used technology in the label industry.

Letterpress printing that was used earlier is way inferior than offset printing. Today, offset is used more and more and the reason behind this is excellent quality. It is extremely good in CMYK and vignette printing. The operation of an offset press needs a lot of experience, but with the advent of water-less offset press, the hassles of ink/water balance and provided offset print quality.  Like everything, offset would improve with time and in recent times, the main concern is to bring down setup and running waste.

Offset Printing has great future and the quality of the offset has never been questioned. It is a niche player in the high-end label market. Today all the big brands including proctor & gambleFree Articles, Nestle demand offset printed labels and hence it is damn easy to say that the future belongs to offset printing. The growth is expected for two reasons; enhanced productivity and excellent quality is one of the reason and the other one is we have no restrictions on offset combination printing cost is very attractive. Offset printing is the demand of all the high end brands and more and more suppliers or the labeling companies have adapted this technology.
