Oftentimes, a person's pocketbook and life circumstances will play a part in the selection process, as well. Here are some cars and the people they reflect:

- Jeeps: The more rugged the jeep, the more outdoorsy and adventurous the driver usually is. The person who chooses this mode of transportation is often a hiker, river runner, kayak owner and one who likes to drive over gigantic boulders to park his or her car.

One category is the truly smart bunch that fixes what they can and knows their limitations. The stuff that's out of these drivers' leagues will be turned over to the mechanics. The other camp is die-hard cheap or broke and does it by themselves or doesn't do it at all.

- Overzealous: This motorist does everything according to the owners' manual on time and keeps all records in an alphabetized file. Sure, his or her car is in good shape, but those OCD tendencies can be grueling.

- In the middle: The happy-medium motorist keeps the vehicle's oil changed, tune-ups done close to on-time and takes it to the repair shop when things break down. He or she has a small emergency fund allotted for repairs but still gripes and cringes when breakdowns occur. This auto owner is fairly laid back, normal and fun to hang out with.
