It's easy to forget the most important issue when it comes to your vehicle: its safety for you,Brake Repair is Necessary for Your Safety Articles your passengers, and others on the road. Nowhere is this importance highlighted quite the way it is in the concept of brake repair. That's why you should never wait when you think you might have a problem with your braking system. Delaying when it comes to issues with your engine or your transmission could cost you a bundle of money; delaying when it comes to your brakes could cost you a life. Just getting it fixed isn't enough, however. You have to make sure the job is done right. Here are some things to ask for when you bring your car into the shop.

Clean Components

Having oil and grease on your rotors can lead to reduced friction. This can be a direct cause of braking system failure, which is only one of many reasons why it's important for a brake repair shop to take pride in their cleanliness. Insist that your parts and components be thoroughly cleaned after being installed. This will prevent any chance of failure, keep dust out of the system, and will reduce your chances of hearing random squeaking when stopping the car. On this last point, however, it's worth remembering that some brands of pads will squeak for a while regardless of their cleanliness.

Oiled Bolts

When your wheels are removed, make sure the shop adds some kind of anti-seize compound to the lug nuts. This will prevent what happens to be a very common problem. Another shop (or the same ones) try to remove the wheels at a later time, only to quickly strip the threads. If you don't take care to keep the lug nuts oiled, they can easily become so tight and unmovable that you will ruin them in an attempt to get them off. While it's not a bad idea to oil them yourself every so often, you should also see to it that your brake repair specialists add a compound when working with them.

Quality Parts

It's only natural to look for a bargain. But you need to remember that when you shop for a bargain, you're going to accept compromises. Generally speaking, brake repair is not an area where you want to make significant compromises. Opting for cheap pads and other parts in an attempt to save money is usually not a great idea. Ask your mechanic about the parts he is using and do your own research. Make sure that only quality replacements go on your vehicle.
