Common Car Warranty Issues

Many people who take out car warranties are pleased to be able to buy peace of mind. Others are less fortunate and run into problems with their policies. We take a look at the most common problems that arise.

Car warranty is an issue that causes quite a bit of confusion and frustration. There are a number of problems that seem to crop up quite regularly.

By making yourself aware of the main issues, you can avoid having the problems that other car owners have faced. Here are some of the issues that appear most regularly:

1. Paying too much for car warranty: Many car warranty policy holders feel that they have paid too much for their policies. They may well be right. Although none of us like spending money, car warranties are one product that is often sold at an inflated price.

If you've had the misfortune to have already paid too much for a policy then you're pretty much stuck with it. Make sure that you don't make the same mistake when it expires.

The key is to shop around and to bear in mind that you don't have to purchase warranty policies from car retailers. In fact, car retailers often fail to offer the best priced policies.

2. The cover is inadequate: This is a nasty problem and one that highlights the importance of reading the terms and conditions before buying extended car warranty.

Car warranties can vary considerably from one company to the next. Spending time reading the small print may not be particularly exciting but it will ensure that you're aware of exactly what level of cover you are receiving.

3. The warranty becomes invalid: This typically occurs if the warranty provider deems that you have not looked after the vehicle correctly. For example, you may not have had the vehicle frequently serviced.

Once again, this is something that can be avoided by reading the policy terms and conditions before making the purchase. Make sure that you know exactly what is required of you.
