Mahindra Thar is available with two engine options of CRDe and Di. The Thar CRDe is powered by a 2.5 litre diesel engine that powers up to 105 Bhp at 3800 rpm and a maximum torque of 247 Nm at 1800 rpm. The Mahindra Thar Di delivers a maximum power of 63 Bhp at 3200 rpm and maximum torque of 180 Nm at 1440 rpm and has a ground clearance of 200mm mated with a 5 Speed Manual Transmission Gearbox. It delivers a mileage of 9.5 kmpl in the city roads and 14 kmpl on the highways. The Mahindra Thar comes with P 235/70 R 16 Tubeless tyres with 6.5 J x 16wheels. The Mahindra Thar reminds you of the good old open jeep. The Thar offers a comfortable ride quality and stays compliant even on bad roads & jungle trails. The Thar CRDe is the most powerful open-top SUV in the country.

The Mahindra Thar delivers a perfect off-roading experience which is possible due to the Torsion and Stabiliser bar in the front and Semi elliptical leaf spring suspension at the rear. The Thar is priced at Rs 5.99 lakh in Delhi, Rs 6.01 lakh in Bangalore, Rs 5.97 lakh in Thane and Rs 6.28 lakh in Mumbai. The Thar DI BS III variant is priced at Rs 4.47 lakh.

The door handle is pretty basic and too plasticky which will risk it in case a something speedily hits at the back. Being heavy duty is what makes up much of this car’s design so it features front disc brakes and drum brakes at the rear.

It's on road manners are in the league of the Bolero as the Thar too boasts of the same Independent Front Suspension on the CRDe variant. The build quality is below average and there are many yawning panel gaps to be found. Some of the materials used in the construction of the jeep actually hurt if you try poking at them without care.
