This part of the engine is critical to maintain. Not doing so could cost you the vehicle in the short term. Know the Signs

What are the symptoms that your vehicle may need a transmission replacement? Each vehicle is vastly different, but most will exhibit the same type of signs when there is a problem with this particular part of the vehicle. In order to overcome these concerns, invest in a mechanic who can inspect and diagnosis the condition properly. The following are some of the most common signs that something is not right with the vehicle.

• The check engine light is one of the biggest telltale signs. This occurs when there is a failure within the engine that causes it not to work properly. When this occurs, the underlying concern is damage to the engine. Do not drive the vehicle in this state.

• You may begin to notice problems when the vehicle is cold. For example, in the morning, it may not wish to move when you step on the gas. You may also notice it shifts poorly. When this happens, especially just as you are turning off a car that has been off for a while, it could indicate a possible transmission replacement.

• Slipping is another condition to monitor for in your vehicle. In this situation the engine races and yet the vehicle only moves at a slow pace. In some situations, the vehicle will not accelerate as it normally would.

• Does the vehicle stall out? Stalling out could be a sign of other problems, but when it stalls or has trouble taking off when you step on the gas, this is a bigger concern to deal with right away.

• Do you hear anything strange? The most common noises include a clicking sound, knocking or screeching. You may have a whistle or a buzzing sound as well. These usually sound like they are coming from either under the hood or from the rear of the car. A hum may also be present.

If your vehicle has any of these symptoms of a problem, get it in to find out what state the engine is in. A transmission replacement is not always the only option. In some cases, you can have a repair done that helps you to avoid a full replacement.
