Keep your emergency devices nearby and always have an escape plan. You don’t want to work on your car in an enclosed garage and not be able to get out in case of a fire. No matter if your auto repair is just changing the brakes or something more in depth like rebuilding the entire engine you need to have all your safety devices close at hand and you need a way to get away from the car and out of the area should an emergency arise. Just take a moment and plan things out carefully. Don’t rely on adrenaline or you expert skills to take over during an emergency. Have a plan.

You can get hurt working on your car even when you know exactly what you are doing. If you are unsure, don’t have the proper equipment, or are in a rush then you don’t need to be doing the work yourself. Take your time and don’t take unnecessary short cuts. Quite often these short cuts will only turn out to make more work for you or your mechanic in the end.
