Whenever you start a dollar store, you do not need to focus only on selling dollar merchandise. Adding closeout and overstock items to your list is a good idea. Not only will they provide a different selection of items for your customers to choose, but they will also increase the profits you generate from your store.

When offering closeout and overstock items, it is best for you to avoid mixing them with your standard dollar price-point items.  Instead, it is a much better idea to set up a special area in your store to harbor higher priced merchandise.  This way, your customers will know exactly where to go to find merchandise that is over one dollar.

Locating deals on closeout and overstock merchandise is not always easy.  You can easily spend a long time without finding suitable merchandise to buy.  You should take the time to find suitable closeout and overstock suppliers.  They will usually have a list you can get on so you will be notified whenever deals come around.

Whenever you do find these deals, it is important for you to take advantage of them as soon as you can.  They typically do not remain available for long, so you will lose out if you procrastinate.

Do not just buy any closeout and overstock products to supplement your dollar merchandise.  As with anything you buy to sell in your store, you will need to make sure your customers are interested in buying them.  There is no need to guess what your customers want to buy.  Simply ask them what they are interested in purchasing.  Your employees can help significantly too.  They are in a much better position to know what customers are seeking since they interact with them on a daily basis.
