Bulk Candies and Your Store—How Can You Offer This Tasty Treat?

Many retailers would like to add a bulk candy display to their business, but aren't quite sure how to go about it.  Here are some ideas to get you started.

Bulk Candies and Your Store—How Can You Offer This Tasty Treat?

There are several things you should keep in mind if you're planning to sell bulk candy.

  • First, you need to research potential suppliers. There are several ways to research the wholesalers from whom you will buy bulk candy.

    • You can look online. Type the words “bulk candy” into Google or some other search engine. You'll get a list of the top sites of companies from whom you can buy candies in bulk, and from there you can check into particular wholesalers' Better Business Bureau ratings. Check out the company websites and see what they sell, what deals they offer, and what policies they implement in customer service.

    • You can also look in the phone book. Call the retailers directly and ask what kind of choices they offer in terms of wholesale candies and customer service support.

    • Call a colleague. Go to a local candy store or other retailer and ask them who their candy wholesaler is and why they chose that particular company. How's their customer service? What sorts of deals do they offer? Research their answers and then make your decision.

  • Next, you'll want to plan your candy display. If you're just now learning how to buy bulk candies, you need to decide what and how you're going to display your merchandise once it arrives. Some stores have only nine or ten candies on display at once; other have entire walls full of bulk gummi candies, bulk Jelly Bellys, bulk chocolates, jawbreakers, gumballs—all sorts of bulk sweets. Some organize the candy by taste sensation, others by color, others by brand. Ask what will work best for your store. You have hundreds of choices.

  • Finally, prepare your displays. Clear some space to display your retail bulk candies. Buy some shelves or display tables. Choose a bright, clean spot.

    • Have plenty of accessories. Acrylic bins with hinged lids work best, since they keep the candies fresh and safe from airborne germs. Make sure you have a handy supply of bags, scoops, and tongs. Attach to each bin a small card that says what the candy is, the price for one pound, the price for half a pound, the price for a quarter pound, and the price for an eighth of a pound. Make sure to have a scale nearby—like the ones you see in the fruit and vegetable section of the grocery store—so that people can buy exactly the amount their buying.

    • Keep your display areas clean. Some people are put off by bulk candy, afraid that people have picked through the bins with their grubby hands, sneezed on it, or left it open to the air so it turns stale. You want people to know that these delicious bulk sweets are safe and fresh. Sweep the area several times a day and clean the scoops regularly.

If you're wondering how to buy bulk candies, it's not too hard to do some research and set up a display of tasty bulk sweets. Your customers will thank youBusiness Management Articles, and so will your bottom line.
