When employees are unsure about what they should be doing or when expectations are continuously changing it can lead to a lot of stress and burnout. As mentioned about good communication is a cornerstone of good workforce management. In the past any form of criticism was not allowed against management, but these days things have changed. Constructive criticism should be welcome because if it is taking on board it can lead to productive changes. This does not mean that employees should be allowed to disrespect their bosses; they should be allowed to speak though when it is for the benefit of the business. It is also good workforce management to respect any suggestions or ideas provided by staff; the more your encourage staff to supply new ideas the more chance there is of them providing a real winning one.

Good workforce management involves being decisive but making decisions which are fair and well thought out. You don't want to come across as somebody who dithers and can't make the big choices, because this will cause your employees to lose confidence in you.  Don't allow yourself to be viewed as someone who collapses under pressure or who is always changing their mind; it is not possible to respect a boss like this.
