When employees are unsure about what they should be doing or when expectations are continuously changing it can lead to a lot of stress and burnout. Effective workforce management involves making your expectations clear to your employees so they always know where the stand. For this to happen there needs to be good communication between the management and staff. It is also important that you let staff know about plans and not just have events be announced at the last minute. The best workforce management strategy will be able to get the most out of people. It is a true maxim that if you let people impress you they will. Giving staff some trust and autonomy and not always checking up on them will increase their confidence and make them more eager to do a good job. When a member of staff feels like they own a project they will often put a lot more effort into it. Effective workforce management is not about having to be constantly tell people what to do; in fact the best managers will have to give very few orders because their staff already know what needs to be done and they just do it. Good workforce management involves being decisive but making decisions which are fair and well thought out. You don't want to come across as somebody who dithers and can't make the big choices, because this will cause your employees to lose confidence in you.  Don't allow yourself to be viewed as someone who collapses under pressure or who is always changing their mind; it is not possible to respect a boss like this. If you want to be effective at workforce management you need to be inspiring, and the sort of manager that people would like to imitate.
