Christmas has always been the best time of the year for me. The festive season comes every year at the same time and brings us so much of cheer. Yet many of us are facing the ignominy of crunching debt numbers and figuring out how to get debt relief at this festive time of the year. Well,Christmas is My Favorite Time of Year - If I'm Not Down in Debt Articles it is one of the biggest tragedies the recession has cast on us.

My story starts from the first department credit card I picked up. I bought a pair of shoes and some nice perfumes. That is how the lure of credit cards and plastic money made a beginning. I had a not so fat looking debt of $500. The lure of new credit cards and a balance transfer made me pay minimum amounts. After my graduation came the next two credit cards and I was deeper down in debt. Yet the biggest jolt was when my job plans fell through. With no regular income and a debt of $11,000 I was almost sunk.

It was Christmas time in 2008 and I now know how bad it was. It is good to receive gifts but when you have no money to buy gifts for your near and dear ones in hurts real bad. I took the resolve of becoming debt free within one year. I started work as a salesman in a factory outlet. Although the job paid very less it helped me remain afloat. Thereafter it has been a small success story I can look back to.

The first step was to set expenditure goals. I tracked every penny that I spent and eliminated wasteful expenditure. The next step was to pursue extra income online. With this push very soon I had eliminated the smallest debt. Thereafter there has been no looking back.

My elimination of smaller debts was a morale booster. I also set aside $100 every month. Twelve months down the line I am debt free and have adequate money to buy Christmas gifts.

There has really never been a more advantageous time for consumers to try and eliminate unsecured debt. Creditors are very concerned about collecting and most have government money to make eliminating some of your debt financially feasible.
