Z wave is a new emerging home automation solution that enables users to control home appliances with RF signal and mesh network. Z wave is suitable for smart home applications and able to control lighting, door locks, roller and blinds, room temperature and so on.

Z wave home automation adopts z wave RF technology and mesh network that enables all devices to compose a mesh and communicate with each other. For lighting control,Control Home Lighting Intelligently with Z Wave Home Automation Articles z wave system consists of z wave master controller (gateway), z wave remotes and z wave lighting devices. The remotes and devices are slave controllers.

All components compose the mesh network. The function of master controller (gateway) is to search and add slave controllers to the network. The slaves will send request to master and master will send command to add them to the network. Each network allows up to 243 devices. The remotes can send RF signal to control the lighting devices once added to network. Compared to traditional RF control, z wave home automation has many advantages.

Firstly, it is source-routed mesh network architecture. Each device works as a node and each node is a transceiver that enables to receive and send signal, which means once the remote send out signal to the first device, the first device will send to the second one, then second one to next one. The signal transmit distance between every two devices is 30 meters. It is wireless synchronization that greatly increases the control distance.

Secondly, each node can communicate with one another by using intermediate nodes. Active route function enables the nodes to circumvent obstacles or radio dead spots, which means even if one node is out of work, the near nodes will find a third node that works well to transmit signal, the radio dead spots will not affect the whole network.

The z wave remotes and lighting devices are available with mono, dual color, RGB and RGBW types. They provides brightness adjustment, CCT adjustment, RGB color adjustment, built-in changing pattern playing and scene storage functions. The lighting devices can be AC or DC input type, if it is AC input one, no power supply required, if it is a DC input one, a constant current or constant voltage AC-DC power supply is required depending on the device.
