Dress appropriately to convey the right impression about your business

Representing yourself in the right and appropriate way is extremely important in business whether you own a business or manage a business, especially if you are dealing with the public or your business is known in the area or even nationally. You are not only selling yourself but you are selling your services or products and sometimes a potential client will make their decision on whether or not they buy from you by how you look and their first impression when meeting you. The way you carry yourself and dress yourself is an extremely important factor when at work or meetings. Everybody you come into contact with could be potential business and you want to make the right professional impression in order to gain valuable contacts and build meaningful relationships. You need to make sure you stick in their mind as being professional and worthy of their business.First of all it goes without saying really, be clean. Keep where you work clean and tidy, it’s a bit different if you are a mechanic but if you have a shop make sure it is presentable, business image is everything and first impressions are important. It would be like going to a meeting with smelly clothes and greasy hair. And you know that is just something you wouldn’t do. So your place of work shouldn’t be any different or your business image will fall flat.Second, dress the part. If you work in a sales environment you are not only selling your products but you are selling yourself. People aren’t going to buy from somebody that has only half made an effort; they may think that the things you sell are only half as good as competitors. This isn’t in all cases but will be most of the time. If you look out of place in your own place of work then people may assume that you put as little effort into your business as your appearance. Same goes if you own say a beauticians, if you turn up with chipped nails, greasy hair, dirty clothes, no makeup or just generally untaken care of and not groomed, it is unlikely somebody is going to want your services. Although do not dress provocatively, it is a no/no unless you are in a business that requires that. If you wear revealing clothing it is very likely that you won’t get taken seriously, you want all the focus to be on your work and get respected for that and not elsewhere therefore you and your business need to project the right image. You also need to remember that when attending meetings or networking events to do a spot of business marketing to other businesses you will need to appear smart and professional to. Again dress the part. This is all about projecting your business image in a way you want to be perceived so get it right first time as first impressions can make or break you. Your business image will stick with you forever whether it is how you look, how your customer feels buying from you or working with you, how your offices/shop/warehouse etc look and are kept. And once somebody has made an impression of you then it’s very hard to change their mind. First impressions count for people and in business, make yours a valuable one.
