Estwing axes have managed to make a name for themselves.

Because of that,Estwing E24A Hatchet. Articles they are not only available online, but can usually be found at a good hardware store. So let’s take a few minutes to talk about the Estwing E24A. These items are affordable, but not a cheap made product at all. This is a nice looking tool, with classic hatchet lines. Over all length is 13.5 inches, and comes with a metal handle, that is co molded with leather washers. This hatchet seems to be one whole piece of metal, as the head and handle are obviously one piece. This metal handle is amazingly durable, but the trade off is, you feel a bit more shock on impact than you might with a traditional wooden handle. The over all weight of the hatchet is 14.9 ounces.

This tool will need a bit of sharpening out of the box, but that is common among hatchets. This tool makes a breeze of splitting small wood pieces, and will need a bit more torque when chopping larger pieces of wood, but gets the job done nicely. However it is a hatchet, not an large axe, and that becomes evident when you attempt to chop a very large piece of wood. This is an ideal tool for prep of fire wood, small pieces of wood, and great for kindling.

This item comes with a leather sheath that is quite good. It does a great job of covering and protecting the head securely. The sheath comes with a point of attachment for your belt. The sheath is actually quite impressive for a hatchet in this price range. At a price range below $50, and made in the USA, i consider this item to be a good bargain for the price. At over 1000 reviews on amazon, this hatchet has a rating of 4.6 out of 5. That is a high mark for sure, considering over one thousand customers took time to review the item.

To sum it up, at a price below $50. i recommend this tool for when something smaller than an axe is required at the camp site, or out in the yard. This item would be ideal for chopping down those irritating weeds that try to persuade us they are a sapling tree. Those pesky weeds with the one inch in diameter stems. Yeah, you know what i am taking about. Also an ideal tool around the camp fire to help keep the fire fueled.

Product retails for around $42.
