This write-up will focus on how can food related businesses make the most out of their code of conduct. Restaurants, grocery stores or other related businesses face a common ethical dilemma which is the contrast of the food or product quality with the minimum wages these businesses handout to their employees.  As we all know that usually the chef of the restaurant or workers of a grocery store are handed over the minimum wage or a bit higher if the employer feel generous. However with the right code of ethics in place, this exploitation can easily be dealt with.

A code of conduct regarding employee relations and well being must monitor working hours of an employee and subsequent compensation the equation of overworking and underpaying does not work out well, however things can be different if we consider variable, pay and work timing, as positively correlated, only then would we be able to justify the pay scale.  This will not only prove to be a satisfaction for the workers but also helps these food establishments to improve their image as a good pay master and attract potential employees.

Apart from employees, what make the reputation of a food business are its quality control procedures and food safety protocols. Consumers literally risk their lives when they make the purchase or rather these food establishments risk the lives of its customers, when they chose to ignore safety protocols and quality control. The results can however very devastating, we have recently seen cases of worse food poisoning causing deaths, now that’s not a good trade off, or is it? Companies involved in food businesses must make it a duty to keep a check on their food policies and quality measures otherwise they would face lawful action, which will leave a big dent on their reputation.

Most of the times companies make the best effort to ensure that the work they do at their end is done to perfection, but what about the work they out source? Or what about the material they obtain from suppliers? Those items too have an impact on the performance of the business and over all service of the company. A Food establishment must be quite particular in selecting what they buy and from who they buy it, with due diligence. Supplier standards must also be mentioned clearly in the code of conduct so that the organization can keep a proper check and balance.

It is imperative that organizations devise a policy regarding their code of ethics so that they are able to perform complying with standards which are acceptable, ensures long run functioning of the organization and well being of the stake holders.
