Pearls: the name brings out the image of the shinning white necklaces and earrings endorsed by the English and Rajput kings and queens with grace. Since time immemorial, they have been assets in the beauty of the rich and powerful people providing them a charming and sober look.
Pearls come in a variety of shapes, sizes, lusture, and colors thus providing people with a whole range to choose from. Pearls come in different colors such as white, blue, red, salmon pink, green, brown, black and tinge of yellow on black. The ideal pearl is perfectly round and smooth but its very rare and almost impossible to find one. Pearls are categorized into different types as per their shapes and origins like freshwater and saltwater pearls or natural and cultured pearls.
Though the most common pearls found are white ones which are very commonly seen in the necklaces of queens and princesses, most people have the desire to own the pearls of their favorite colors. This has led to the research and now days there are pearls in almost all the possible colors one can think of giving their admirer even more options to choose from.
The color of pearls depends on the impurities and color present in water which eventually reflects back in the finished pearl. During the formation of the cultured pearls, the desired shades of colors are added to the water and thus resulting in the pearls of the desired colors. Sometimes even rare color of pearls can be produced by this method which may vary from lavender to pink and red.
Colorful pearls are rare and expensive as well and thus they demand proper care and handling to make them last for a long time and add to the beauty of the person. For this the pearls should be protected from direct contact with the perfume and hair sprays ads well as from other cosmetic items. The exposure to heat and direct sunlight can also have its toll on the delicate pearls and with due course of time lead to the change in color.
Hence they must be well preserved with a soft tissue or a gentle sponge while storing them to prevent damage and scratches.
