In October 2011 the town became an even more attractive shopping destination with the opening of Parkway, an open street development in the heart of the town. Here, there are a number of the major high street retailers as well as John Lewis, the flagship retailer. The Corn Exchange arts centre provides a wide variety of entertainment and Vue cinema is also close by, offering a great alternative to the retail offering in the town. 

The countryside surrounding Newbury is part of the North Wessex Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The Kennet and Avon Canal runs right through the district from the outskirts of Reading to Hungerford. This offers a very scenic and beautiful setting and one well worth seeing and taking in should you be in the area.
