Paint Brush Identify the Different Varieties

It is important to consider a few things before choosing painting brushes such as the elasticity of the brush, the ability of the brush to regulate the flow of paint and whether it can make a sharp point. Choosing the right type of paint brush from an endless variety is very important.

There is nothing more important to an artist than a good paint brush. Different types of brushes are available that help the artist to portray his talents and creativity.

Paint Brush- Understanding the Different Types

Artist brushes requires different types of brushes to paint his canvas. Luckily today the markets are hoarded with innumerable varieties of brushes made of different materials. These brushes are available in different shapes and sizes. Some of the most commonly used brushes include the following:

Synthetic paint brush: these brushes are similar to the natural hair brushes but are priced at reasonable rates. It is ingrained with the same qualities of the natural hair brushes and can hold the paint well. Made of synthetic fibres, these brushes are available in two colors mainly white and orange. The white synthetic brushes are suitable for blending and stroking where as the orange synthetic brush is ideal for glazing. Both these varieties are soft like the Sable hair brushes.

Natural hair paint brush: as these brushes are made from the natural hair of goat, sable, squirrel, ox and hog, it is quite expensive compared to the ordinary brushes. Some of the natural hair brushes include the Pure Red Sable, the Kolinsky Sable, Squirrel hair and Bristles. Brushes made from Kolinsky Sable are very expensive but it is the softest brush available. It is ideal for use with water color paints and thin acrylics. These brushes have long pointed tips and graceful shapes. It can be used for all types of paints.

The Squirrel hair paint brush has a long pointed tip and is very soft. It has an immense ability to hold paint and can be used with tempera and water color paints.

The Pure Red Sable is another notable variety that is equally soft and considered unique among artist brushes. For oil and acrylic paints, it is best to opt for Bristles which are quite strong and have split ends. It can hold huge amounts of paint.

Different Shapes of Brushes

Painting brushes are also available in different shapes and sizes. The most commonly used brushes include the Flat brushes, Round brushes, Mop brushes, Filbert brushes, Fan brushes and so forth.
