In what can be termed as a prime example of how indecision costs infrastructural growth, the long pending quadrupling of Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch has failed to see the light of the day.

Planed for some years now,Quadrupling of Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch Articles the quadrupling of the 23 km Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch is officially alive in government books. Unfortunately no work has been done on the project for the last number of years. The project was planned and conceived to overcome the demand of train services on the stretch connecting it to the central business district. What's even more appalling is that the railway authorities had approved a budget of Rs. 83 crores for the project but nothing has moved at the ground level despite allocation of funds.

Growing It Workforce Initiated the Plan: The original plan for quadrupling on the Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch was put in place as an added option to the strong IT workforce to commute to their offices and back from all over the city. Strengthening the section would have meant an additional option of commute especially connecting the central business district (CBD) with Whitefield area which houses a large number of multinational and other large IT companies.

Reasons Behind the Delay: the much anticipated and a well planned project like quadrupling on the Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch was delayed primarily because of lack of adequate planning in acquiring land for the project. Even with a financial budget in place the project could not see the light of the day as the project required laying of two additional lines while the railways had had land for just one line. The railways on their part suggested a cost sharing proposal to the state government to acquire and but the state government just sat on the file therefore delaying the project indefinitely.

Bangalore Residents the Real Losers: while the state government and railway officials have been unable to reach a consensus to acquire land for the project, the real losers have been the common man of Bangalore who has lost out on a convenient way to commute between their homes and offices. If the quadrupling project on the Bengaluru City-KR Puram-Whitefield stretch would have been completed, there would have been that much ales traffic on the roads socially in the peak hours when professionals are reaching their office or commuting back to their homes in the evening.
