The Smart Way of Doing Personal Branding

In the world of business, personal branding rules. It is the tool to use for positioning yourself as a high-class good and get the kind of business results you want.

With smart personal branding, you turn yourself into a desirable brand with an attractive packaging. Once youíre in that spot, itís a lot easier to make yourself heard, advance in the company, get clients, grow your business and so on.

Working in the field of communication coaching, I rarely see what I would call smart personal branding. I think many people donít understand the key principles of this process and thus, they break them. With this in mind, here are the key things to consider in building your brand:

1. Stand out. A brand needs to be easy to remember, easy to recognize and to encourage people to talk about it. For this to happen, it is essential for it to differentiate itself and get noticed.

So in branding yourself and communicating your defining traits, stay away from clichťs and focus on those traits and trait combinations that make you unique. Quality does matter, but so does giving it a unique spin.

2. Stay on track. In order for any trait or message to be remembered and compelling, it needs to be repeated over and over again. This is why itís critical for you to focus on they key ideas you want to convey and stick to them.

Donít spread yourself too thin. Keep reinforcing those same key messages and ideas, using simple and clear language and communication. This is what will build you as a brand more than anything else.

3. Be authentic. Effective personal branding has nothing to do with putting a fake self out there. This process is hard to sustain and it leads nowhere in the long run. Rather, it is about putting your best self out there.
