Many photographers tend to use flash when the light is low. While the trick sometimes works,Tips On How To Take Wedding Photos In Low Light Articles in some cases it fails and the background tends to get lost in darkness.

In most of the cases flash is not allowed in church; therefore, you many not use it. In such a scenario it’s wise that you know how to set your camera so that it’s able to take high quality photos in low light. Some of the things that you need to do include:

Lowering the shutter speed

The shutter is a blind that is located in front of the sensor and it’s opened for a given amount of time. The longer it’s opened, the more the light that gets in. Shutter speed on the other hand is the length of time that the shutter remains open. The speed is usually measured in fractions of a second. For example 1/125, 1/250, 1/500 and so on.

When you decrease the shutter speed, you allow more light to get into the photos. In addition to allowing more light into the photos, decreasing the shutter speed also allows you to capture a lot of movement in the photo.

You should note that although this technique works, it often results to blurred images especially when the speed is not properly set. For ideal results you should take a few test shots in order to see the effects of the speed.

Changing to Manual mode

When you set the camera to manual mode you are able to manipulate the exposure settings and as a result you are able to take better photos.

Increasing the aperture

The aperture is the size of the lens opening when a photo is taken. When you increase the size of the opening, you allow more light into the camera which in turn increases the amount of light in the photo.

If you are taking photos in an area that is too dim, you should increase the aperture to the largest setting possible. As always you should take several test shots before you start taking wedding photos.

Use flash when everything else fails

If you try the above techniques and they fail, you should consider using flash. To get high quality images, you should bounce the flash off the ceiling in order to light the scene more evenly. If this doesn’t work, you should consider turning up the ISO.
