There are essentially two kinds of membership sites.

Paid sites and free websites. The two types of membership websites have a thing in common. Their memberships are consist of people who share a similar interest or share a common need.

Even without paying for a membership, one can still get a domain, set up a site and still be able to pick who to admit and not.This is done when the profit is projected to come from sales to members after they enroll in the website. There are network websites that are available for free that one can use. MSN and Yahoo groups are two examples of membership sites that are accessible for free. It costs nothing to set these sites up and there is no charge at all for a person to sign up.

Paid administrator or moderators are also not needed from these websites.

On every site, there are rules on how to join and the code of conduct for that particular website. The site subjects are many and diverse. There are countless “support� sites for individuals with health problems or concerns and for people who have grieved the loss of loved ones. There are websites for those who are passionate about crafts like quilting or woodworking.

For those who like traveling, there are also sites offered for them.

There are websites for different age groups from teens to seniors. For each member, there is an available chat software and a space assigned for documents, links and for posting pictures. If there's one thing these free websites don't have, it is access to lists and specialized data like music lessons.

On the other hand, paid for membership sites are set up by people or {businesses|companies|ventures] to make money by giving information and access to a number of fields of instructions, specialized data or lists. Membership sites are owned and operated by people who either own the websites or who are hired by the website owners to supervise and oversee them. The subjects are wider and even more diverse and without doubt more specialized than those from free membership sites.
