Who Wants To Drink A Cup Of Contaminants?
The concept of water treatment is extremely important because human beings need clean water to drink. Long gone are the days where one simply walked over to the stream or dropped the bucket down into the well to receive cool, clear, clean, life-sustaining water. Today, a great need has developed to treat water that was previously unusable. One particular water treatment process is called Dissolved Air Flotation, or DAF. This process is used to purify water removing contaminants and unhealthy particles. This is a process that is now commonly being used in many sewage treatment plants as well as contaminated water treatment conducted by oil companies.

What is the Major Benefit Using DAF?
The major benefit using the DAF process is that it is quite effective to use and easy to implement. This process employs the concept of parallel packing that increases the separation surface area which improves overall process efficiency. There are two major types of the system - circular and rectangular. The circular version has the ability to clean water in just about three minutes. The rectangular version is a much slower process in which water can be cleaned in approximately 30 minutes.

When is DAF Used?
Typically the DAF process is used to removeharmful particles from unusable water when these do not settle out of solution effectively. Certain water supplies that are infiltrated with unicellular algae blooms, are of a high color but low ability or been subjected to the DAF process. Once all particles are coagulated properly, the water flows through DAF tanks where air diffusers create bubbles attached to the floc creating a mass concentration, or floating blanket. This floating blanket of particle material is removed at the surface of the tank and clarified water is released from the bottom of the DAF tank resulting in clean drinking water.
