When most of us think about facilities maintenance staff,Why Facilities Maintenance is So Important Articles we think about the work being completed as it becomes necessary. The fact of the matter is, however, it can be quite disastrous if something should happen to go wrong and a catastrophic failure should occur in any part of our business. This cannot only be costly to repair, they can also be costly in the fact that it will keep our business from operating as it should for an extended amount of time in some cases. That is why it is very important for you to consider the predictive maintenance that needs to be done on any facility. Here are some of the areas which may need your attention.

One important aspect of facilities maintenance is going to be fire prevention. This is something that is not only going to have a financial impact on your business, it can also have a significant impact on your employees. The last thing that you would want to have happen is for a fire to occur and for things not to be operating properly that are supposed to take care of that fire. That is why it is important for you to regularly check the smoke detectors and fire extinguishers that are in your building to ensure that they are operating properly. It is also important for you to do a visual inspection to determine if things need to be updated or changed within the business to maintain a degree of safety. This can be anything from checking the exit signs to making sure that any space heaters are far enough away from the wall or anything that may catch fire. If anything is recognized that needs to be taken care of, open a service order and do the equipment maintenance that is necessary immediately.

Electrical problems are also an issue for many facilities. It may be necessary for you to redo the electrical supply in your facility, changing from 15 A up to 20 A within the breaker box. This is something that is not going to need to be done on a continual basis but it should be done once if necessary. If you are continuing to grow as a business, the needs of your electrical supply is going to go along with it. It doesn't matter if you are using electrical tools or if you are running more microwave ovens during lunch break, having enough electricity flowing is going to prevent problems that will be an issue.

The generator is also something that should be considered as you would certainly not want it to break down and costly repair to occur. Check the generator on a monthly basis, performing the checklist that will help you to determine if there are any problems that are about to arise with the generator. It will also help you to keep on a regular schedule of doing the maintenance on the generator that needs to be done. Putting that off until a later date can be hazardous and quite expensive.

These are just a few of the things that need to be done to keep your facility up and running at any given time. Make sure that you continue to work regularly on predictive maintenance, and other maintenance issues will be few and far between.
