Your Guide to Pallet Racking Backstops

If you're the owner or manager of a business, it's your responsibility to keep your employees safe, which at many places, means you'll need to invest in some pallet racking backstops.  Let's discuss what these are for, how to use them, and how to shop for them.Warehouse pallet racking can be difficult to buy if you don't know where to look.  There are specialty retailers that specialize in providing materials specifically for businesses which will sell them to you. But if not, then it will at least take you to numerous places on the Internet where you can order them.One word of caution:  Be careful who you buy from.  Make sure, especially with an item like this that you buy only from trusted manufacturers and dealers.  We're talking about safety here, and it's never smart to skimp on safety.Once you have the pallet rack backstops, you need to make sure that the racking is both safe and secure and thus ready for use. The easiest way to ensure that this is so is by hiring a professional installer to handle the work for you. It's not a good idea to use someone who doesn't know what he's doing. This will only cause problems in the future, and the ones who will suffer are your employees, who might possibly be injured.        After you have the racks secure and stable, it's important to be sure that they're safe enough to walk around them. To do this, make sure that the units are installed with pallet corner protectors. These protectors are corners made out of rubber. They thus soften the corners on the racks, making them not so painful or dangerous if someone accidentally runs into them.Another thing you'll want the installer to do is install rack backstops.  They will prevent you from losing inventory off the racking back.  Not only will this save you quite a few injuries, but the money invested in the product as well.Of course, all of these steps taken to keep your employees safe are pointless if you haven't taken other safety steps as well.  This means installing accessories such as a racking safety net.  These, however, are used mostly if you're packing items in the racking.  You won't need to buy much of it, since you'll use the same netting repeatedly, and only where it's needed (such as to provide extra push back within the system).Finally, there are other safety features which should accompany your backstops for maximum safety.  They're important whether you're using packet racking or not.  We're talking about things such as steel-tipped shoes, gloves, goggles, and hard hats.  Remember that it's almost impossible to overdo safety at work, especially in warehouse areas.  And an important part of this safety should be pallet racking backstops.
