Talking of student activities, whoever said, "Students are harbingers of fortune if they know their mind" has probably done a great honor to tomorrow's hopes, more than anything else. That single remark epitomizes what many a student ought to pay more attention to for the benefit of her and our future. For indeed, what the present generation is planning their career is how our collective future will manifest.
It is in this perspective that institutions plan a wide gamut of student activities to help them decide their future. After all, didn't Google co-founders know what they want to do when they were still in university, completing their historic thesis?Looking back, many of us – the older variety – reminisce we could have done something else. Perhaps so, but past high noon, there is little tempo left to reverse the course already taken. If that seems a bit off-the-cuff, let's take a look at the following memorable comment:
The biggest mistake people make in life is not making a living at doing what they most enjoy. - Malcolm S. Forbes (1919-1990). "Well then, what is it that you really enjoy doing? Lest it creates confusion in young minds, let me admit it is not always easy to imagine making a living out of what you enjoy doing. Take the example of my next-door-neighbor's son Aki, who is a good singer and loves singing at impromptu concerts but plans to start his career as a structural engineer.
To his credit, Aki doesn't miss a chance to lend his melodic voice even while proving his mettle in studies. Among various options of off-the-course student activities that his university offers, he has opted for music and he is happy he did. Do you see a contradiction there? Perhaps. May be no. Ask Aki if he plans to abandon singing once he is in job, he firmly says no. Because he feels singing doesn’t come in the way of his job, and who knows, conditions permitting, one day he may as well quit job and become a full-time singer.
That is where – and you've to give it to Aki – matured thinking plays a part in shaping your future. The point to think over is, do you, dear students, have an alternative career in mind? If no, then now is the time to build one. But how?Take Nori Evoy's example. She is all of 17 years and a full-time student, yet earns thousands of dollars by just maintaining her web site part-time. In fact she pulls in more money working a couple of hours per week at her computer than kids doing two shifts a week at a bar, restaurant or retailer. Here is what she has to say:

Isn’t that you cheered (and jeered) at basketball games, or for that matter, don't you have a great collection of 19th century philately?As you see, options are many which your website can be about. You just need to 'press the start button', and a great website will be yours, only and fully yours.

I've often wondered what it is like for other content writers. Do they get their desired 'dues' writing for others? I say so because though there's a wide acknowledgement that unique readable content does matter for better ranking at SERPs, the reality is content writers still do not cut much ice.
